I bought this router years ago back in 2011. For years it was rock solid and never had any problems, it didn't need reboots, it just worked.A year or so ago i started having problems. The WiFi connection would start dropping out pretty frequently, and no amount of reboots, firmware updates or other tips or tricks have been able to fix the problem. I even checked to see if there were other devices on the same channels and made sure the router was on it's own channel without interference.After dealing with the dropouts for months and not being able to find a satisfactory fix I ended up giving in and buying a new router.

The router was rock solid for 5+ years, so i have to give it a decent rating, even though it was frustrating near the end.

I have had this router for six years now. I have not had any issues.Sure, I'll have to do the occasional reboot as with every router on the planet. For mine, I attest this to the hot conditions that it has to be in. My bedroom's temperature can often go into the 100's (Fahrenheit). Solid, router but after the aforementioned six years of basically flawless use, I feel lit's time to preemptively move on and am searching for something new.

There are many bad reviews for this product. I'm going to associate most of those due to lack of knowledge or faulty product which every single manufacturer has issues with.

I purchased this wireless router after MONTHS of investigation. I needed to replace a cheapy Belkin wireless router that worked fine but absolutely did not meet my needs.

Right now I have 1,900+ connections to this computer via torrent traffic and the router is handling it just fine.I am downloading the file at 1.2MB/s (megaBYTES per second) and I am having no issues browsing the web while doing so. The router's CPU load is at 4% and available ram is 94%. It's quite robust. Oh btw, I immediately flashed the stock firmware in favor of DDWRT which has been working absolutely flawlessly. Someone had commented that there were issues with running DDWRT with this router but I have not been able to find any such problems. Perhaps the issue has been fixed at Buffalo or at DD-WRT.

Buffalo Technology is not as well known as Linksys or Netgear but, they are just as good or in my humble opinion they are better.Buffalo is one of the few manufacturers who still use external antennas.I do wish that the antennas on this router were removable but, they are not.This router still offers better range than those routers without antennas and the gigabit ethernet ports are just what you need if your computers already have gigabit capability.This routers uses the popular DD-WRT firmware which has way more features than most people will ever needbut, they are there should you want to experiment with it's capabilities.

I had been using WRT54G type Linksys routers in the past and had a good and reliable experience with them but, they were just 54G wireless speed and I initially tried the D-link DIR-655 router and after having tried 2 of them that continually kept rebooting and losing connection randomly I got fed up with that and I was looking for a router with gigabit ethernet ports and good range.This Buffalo is marketed as a high power router and it does have a high power transmitter than can be adjusted easily in the firmware.I had the higher gain Linksys antennas on my WRT54G router and this Buffalo puts out at least that well and probably better.The D-link DIR-655 didn't have as much signal as this Buffalo and the D-link has problems with that model as evidenced by the posts in their support forums with the same type of sporadic connection problems with the wireless and wired connections and I contacted D-link tech support and they are so bad they asked me why I wanted to update the firmware.

About the only complaint I have with this router is the lack of removable antennas.If you could replace the original antennas with even higher gain antennas this thing would be awesome and would have gotten 5 stars.This thing has way more range than 95% of people would need and I'm just a stickler for maximum range.I can't imagine a house so large that this router couldn't supply it with plenty of wi-fi coverage.

If you're reading this review then I'm sure you know how frustrating wireless internet connections can be.

Why is it that internet providers almost always provide sub standard hardware?

I've been on virgin 10mb for a couple months now. The "superhub" that virgin provided is a complete piece of rubbish. Low signal range, wireless speeds pathetic, etc. On a wired connection I'd get 9.8Mb/s, on wireless 2Mb/s on a good day.

So the only answer to this was to buy a second "cable router" and use the virgin superdud as a modem.

I'm a very experienced computer user, and have setup many networks in the past so know what I am doing. Before this router I tried two others:

Belkin Surf N300
Linksys E1200

The N300 has software issues (and then prompts you to phone an 0845 number!), drops the wireless connection frequently and "thinks" that there is no internet coming from the modem when it is evident that there is. Returned after a week.

The Linksys has probably the lowest signal strength I've ever seen from a router, a bedroom 1 floor up cannot detect the network. Returned after a day.

I do like Netgear routers, and have had good experiences with them in the past, but read bad reviews about several "cable routers" by Netgear so decided to try something else.

Anyway..I thought I'd share some experiences so you can all see how much rubbish is out there on the market; just because it's made by reputable companies does not mean it's any good.

So...onto this router:

-Decent signal strength (not amazing but good)
-Wireless connected first time on every computer (unlike many routers)
-Easy to setup (CD included but not needed as usual)
-Huge amount of extra features on router config page
-Just ran a speed test and I get 9.7Mb/s on wireless

That last point alone should make you buy this router. I have NEVER seen wireless deliver anywhere near the same speed as a wired connection. And this router has done just that. Absolutely amazing.

Avoid Belkin. Avoid Linksys. Buffalo is the way forward!

Review edit: Had this router for a couple weeks now and unfortunately it has not lived up to the 5 stars that I gave it. About twice a day the wireless network completely dissapears and the router must be powered off and on to get it back again. Still the best router i've used so far...pretty sad really!

Gesuchte Leistungsmerkmale waren, die ich bei anderen nicht so gefunden habe:
3G/UMTS- Wireless - Switch -
VPN-Client: auf mindestens: PPTP, kein einfaches IPSEC oder NUR VPN passthrough PPTP, LT2P.
Zusätzlich hat er auch einen VPN Server

Ich habe die einfache Firmware (Buffalo) in Gebrauch, die reicht für oben genanntes völlig aus.

3G isat zwar bei Netgear Routern einfacher einzustellen, wenn man in vielen Ländern unterwegs ist.
Die haben für die meisten Provider Voreinstellungen.

Force Recconnect fand ich bei Netgear besser, hier kann man das auch, aber dann kommt eine Uhrzeit, ich weiß doch nicht wann die Verbindung getrennt wird.

UMTS Verbindung ist 2 mal weggebrochen (o2), sonst läuft die durch.
Muss ich beobachten. Sollte nicht passsieren. Hatten andere auch schon beobachtet, allerdings unter dd-wrt.
Der vierte Stern kommt wegen dem VPN Client über UMTS, sonst 3 Sterne.

This is my first wireless router, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I'm impressed.It was very easy to set up; it comes with a 'Setup Wizard' on the CD, but I didn't bother with that.There's a good PDF user guide, the factory defaults seem sensible and the web browser interface is very comprehensive, with plenty of fairly helpful help.I've plugged my Windows 7 box, Linux box and TV into the wired ports, and everything just works, including VPN.It connected to my Kindle first time and I get good wireless reception in every room in the house, and that can't be bad.(YMMV: Your Mansion May Vary.)It's worth experimenting with the orientation of the aerials, as that seems to make quite a difference to the indicated signal strength.I haven't had the Buffalo for long enough to be sure that it's as rock solid as my old Linksys wired router, but I've seen no issues so far.A really good product at a fair price - what's not to like.

Ich kann nichts negatives an dem Router finden. Bereits die "User Friendly" Firmware ist sehr gut und auch für Laien, wenn sie Schritt für Schritt durchgegangen wird, verständlich. Zudem wird jede Einstellung ausführlich auf Deutsch erklärt.
Möchte man mehr kann man die DD-WRT Firmware installieren. Diese läßt eigentlich keine Wünsche offen, ist aber etwas aufwendiger zu handhaben, ist aber deshalb kein Kritikpunkt, den diese Firmware richtet sich auch an den "professionellen" User.

Da mich das Ganze, auch als Laie, sehr interessiert hat, habe ich einen ganzen Nachmittag mit DD-WRT zugebracht und mich intensiv damit beschäftigt. Es hat Spass gemacht und ich bin jetzt ein bisschen schlauer, die Möglichkeiten, die man mit dieser FW hat, sind auf jeden Fall absolut fantastisch!

Einziger Kritikpunkt: Nachdem ich die Userfriendly FW auf 1.77 upgegraded hatte konnte ich meinen drahtlosen Drucker nicht mehr ansprechen obwohl er mit dem Router verbunden war. Beim downgrade auf die 1.74 hat es wieder funktioniert genauso wie mit DD-WRT.

Die Reichweite ist für mich absolut zufriedenstellend, in der gesamten Wohnung habe ich guten Empfang und sehr gute Geschwindigkeiten.

Das Gerät ist uneingeschränkt zu empfehlen!

Ich habe mich für den Buffalo Nfiniti G300NH entschieden da es mit meinem ISP und dessen mitgelieferter HW riesige Probleme gibt (finger weg von Thomson).

Da ich die Streitereien satt war hab ich mich dazu entschieden alles selbst in die Hand zunehmen und den WLAN Router von dem ISP auszuhebeln. Um zukünftige Probleme zu vermeiden habe ich mich dazu Entschieden ein Qualitativ hochwertigeres Produkt zu kaufen und bin über Empfehlung auf das Buffalo verwiesen worden - vollkommen zu recht.

Ich kann das Produkt uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen - auch die verschiedenen Firmwaretypen funktionieren alle super und sind einfach zu konfigurieren und zu Handhaben - einzig die Menüführung hätte etwas übersichtlicher sein können... aber bei welchen Router ist das schon der Fall?

Einziges Manko: Das groß beworbene USB-Festplatte über den Router ansteuern und als "NAS" zu verwenden funktioniert bei mir leider überhaupt nicht...
Wer darauf aber nicht den Fokus legt kann das Gerät oder dessen großen Bruder ohne Sorgen kaufen.

Nachdem mein bisheriger Router nun schon seit ca. 8 Jahren seinen Dienst verrichtet hat und sich Verbindungsprobleme häuften wurde es Zeit für ein neues Gerät.
Wichtig war mir dafür neben einer guten Software und einer stabilen Verbindung vorallem auch die WLAN Reichweite und Geschwindigkeit.
Schließlich fiel die Entscheidung auf diesen Router.

Die DD-WRT Software ist komfortabel zu bedienen und bietet viele Einstellmöglichkeiten. Klare Verbesserung zum bisher verwendeten Netgear Router.
Die Verbindung lässt sich besser verwalten und aktiviertes QoS ist bemerkbar.
USB, Medienserver, Torrent Client,... sind für mich im Moment nicht von Belang.

Soweit bin ich mit dem Router und dessen Funktionsumfang zufrieden.
Beim testen des WLANs wo die stark verbesserte Reichweite und Geschwindigkeit angepriesen wird kam jedoch dann die Enttäuschung.

Trotz 2 statt bisher 1 Antenne und einem aktuellen Gerät hatte ich bei der Empfangsstärke (Windowsanzeige) nur 1 Balken.
Auch eine Ausrichtung der Antennen brachte nur eine geringe Verbesserung auf 2 Balken.
Zwischen Router und Client liegen dabei lediglich eine Leichtbauwand und eine Decke, wobei diese sogar über eine Gallerie zum darunterliegenden Aufenthaltsraum offen ist.

Leider lässt sich die Leistung der Antennen in der Software nicht anpassen obwohl die verantwortlichen Einträge vorhanden sind.
Anscheinend liegt hier ein Problem mit der DD-WRT Software vor und bisher ist keine Lösung in Sicht.

Ich kann das Gerät soweit jedem Empfehlen der keine besonderen Ansprüche an WLAN stellt.

Reichweite ist nicht schlecht und auch eine Festplatte war auf ihm eingebunden.
Demensprechend kann ich ihn noch immer weiterempfehlen als gebrauchtes Gerät (Sonst gibt es sicher neuere!)

DAS NEGATIVE:
Ich habe oft Firmware-Updates gemacht, weil ich auch zum Beispiel wieder zu der anderen Firmware gewechselt bin.
=> nie irgendwelche Probleme
Eines Tages installiere ich die neue Firmware wie gewohnt, da bleibt das System stecken!!! Ich habe alles fast 24 Stunden noch laufen lassen, weil ich ihm nicht den Strom nehmen wollte oder sonst etwas tue. Doch leider nichts.
Auch mit Flashprogrammen über wollte er nicht mehr zurück.

Auf Garantieanspruch ging ich gar nicht, weil Firmwareupdates immer so eine Sache sind (wie bei BIOS-Flash) und vor allem der neue hat noch eine bessere Reichweite, super Funktionen und war auch günstig. (ein LP-Link!)
