Fantastic little router for the price. I had it flashed with DD-WRT and setup as a repeater bridge within a half hour. A half hour? Hey, for my first time doing either I’m not unhappy with how long it took. I don’t have the coverage I want across the house yet but at least now I can use my Wink 2 hub and load up facebook from my room without having to go downstairs and walk halfway across the house. I think one more and I should at least get halfway decent coverage throughout the house for a change.
The software and instructions for flashing DD-WRT were spot on and got me set up the first try.

Two tips – The manual does not quite match the currently shipping product; outer/ap/bridge is set in software now and a few other minor issues.No big deal.

One potential “gotcha” is worth noting.I had tried replacing the Comcast gateway with a modem and this router.That particular modem would not connect with Comcast, so I used this router with the modem function of the Comcast gateway until I could order a different modem.Worked fine.

Installed new modem this morning and router worked OK — briefly.It then warned “Your ISP’s DHCP does not function properly,” which has many discussions on the web — but not for this specific model modem.When Comcast did the online approval of the modem activation, it warned that they could be doing config for some time.What was strange was that I could access the net from the modem Ethernet port, but the router was still unhappy about the ISP’s DHCP.

Don’t panic.Give Comcast a good hour to do their thing and then reset the modem.My IP address had changed in the lower 16 bits and the router was now happy with ISP DHCP and routing fine.(You might need to run the quick setup again.)

Another suggestion from the net was to change the router’s DHCP query frequency from aggressive to normal.

This is a good little router at a fair price. I would not use it as our main router since its a bit under-powered, but its great for increasing signal on a single floor. We have an Asus RT-N16 as our main router and that covers 2 floors, but our top floor was not getting a solid signal, so we bought this to add as an access point. The routers work well together and setup was fairly easy. We have Ethernet in our walls so we were able to use the access point mode instead of the inferior range extender mode. If you upgrade the firmware on this, it can be accessed via the Asus router phone application. Make sure to set both routers on channels that are far apart (1 and 11, for example, or the least congested channels) and make sure that all of the other wireless settings are exactly the same, including name and password. Modern WiFi devices detect this and will automatically switch between the 2 routers based on their signal strength.

After over a year of use, this router pretty much hit its end of life. Worked good at first: good range and wireless bandwidth w/100MB wired and well over 50MB wireless on a 100+MB connection. The other day I suddenly noticed my connection was in the single digits. Did all the troubleshooting measures including contacting the ISP, researching everything online, doing this and that and everything else known to man. Seemed like it came back to life a little bit for several weeks, but started being slow once again the other day for no reason at all. I noticed the ram was pegged out about 96% always, and I don’t figure that’s really good. Again, did even more troubleshooting than the "everything known to man" troubleshooting I did before, and no go. I replaced it with a Netgear 1750 today. With no other changes to my network other than simply swapping out the router itself, I just hit 120MB wired, and 60-70MB wireless easy…again and again test after test. I am running about 18 clients on my network, although maybe 10 at the most are active at any given time; I suppose somehow or another that can jam up a low end router like this, although I’m not 100% if it would or should or not. Still, $27…what can you expect? My network is back up and running and at over full strength so I’m happy all in all. Might use this as a repeater at some point…about all it’s good for now.

Replacement for previous wireless router (same make/model only this one is a D1). It works in a kinda sorda way, meaning that if cables are connected to PCs/laptops/tablet from the modem through the router, it works as long as I maintain physical connectivity and I’m on the Net. However, this is marketed as a wireless router which will not work as wireless for internet connectivity. It acts as if it is transmitting, but my equipment says it not. Two days trying to get it to work, leaves me with the impression that their "Service Techs" both online and via phone, really don’t have a clue of what they are talking about (not to mention their accents over the phone are so heavy you can barely comprehend what they are saying). The whole purpose of wireless is mobility, which I don’t have…what I have, it works as long as it’s tethered by a cable to the router. The previous router I would have rated a 5, this one, however…to me is a piece of junk and doesn’t even rate a zero. I’ll be sending it back for a refund and find something local. Lesson learned…

I have D-LINK DIR-845L used to be excellent range and performance but lately started to act. no way to compare with ASUS (RT-N12)
ASUS (RT-N12)signals is way weaker and I struggled to set it as a repeater. I kept trying and the screen never finish the setup . I struggled to get it connected and go to the login page. I figured out finally but it is not that simple when you use as repeater. make sure you install Asus utility to give you the IP address for easy access to the login page. the setup page keeps loading for ever and never finish, it opens up new tab with setup errors however, if you login again, you will find out that setup has been updated and working fine.
if you have to update to latest firmware, make sure that you use cable and again it takes forever and you have to login again to see the new firmware on the top.
the device looks more like refurbished from Amazon , I am not sure if am the only one who received the router without this plastic cover like any other products , even the sticker was not sealed.
will keep it for a few days and will see if there is any issues. I was basically thinking about 2, one as main router and second as repeater.

A: Plugged into a wall, it takes +/- 10 hours to fully charge the internal. Short access to direct sunlight or short spurts of hand cranking (about 130-150 RPM for 3-5 mins at a time) provide sufficient power for several hours of use during an emergency. Keep in mind that our internal battery capacity is 2x-4x the size of others, so it’s not necessary to fully charge by sunlight or hand cranking. These are just emergency alternatives.

Q: How long does the radio last after cranking for 2 mins?
A: In this case, the radio would last about 20 mins and flashlight about 10 mins.

Q: Can you charge it with the hand crank or solar panel if the battery is already fully depleted?
A: Absolutely.

Q: How do you know when the battery is fully charged?
A: A red light appears while charging. Also the LCD screen has a battery level indicator with 8 lines when fully charged.
